Imagine having multiple, coordinating colors blooming at the same time on a hydrangea tree. Little Lime Punch blooms all summer long, displaying lime green, white, rose, and deep raspberry shades as the massive flowerheads age and mature. This miniature tree may be small, but it makes a big statement.
Plant Little Lime Punch at the front of a cottage garden bed where it will mix brilliantly with daylilies, foxglove, and ornamental grasses. Little Lime Punch also makes a great thriller element in a mixed seasonal container alongside annuals and tender perennials. The cut flowers are long lasting and dry easily for year-round arranging.
Little Lime Punch® Hydrangea Tree Care
Plant Little Lime Punch in a partly shaded to full sun location. In climates with hot summers, plant it in dappled sun or shade during the hottest part of the day. Soil pH does not change the flower color of Little Lime Punch, and it will happily grow in either acidic or alkaline soil. Provide supplemental watering to keep the soil evenly moist, especially during periods of drought or high temperatures. Fertilize annually with an extended-release formula. A balanced NPK ratio of 10-10-10 is perfect.
Hydrangea trees planted in containers may require extra insulation to successfully survive the winter months. Wrap the outside of the container with layers of burlap or horticultural fleece. If possible, move the container to a sheltered spot near the house or garage, out of the path of prevailing winds and storms. Move containers into an unheated garage during severe winter weather to provide added protection.
Little Lime Punch® Hydrangea Tree Spacing
Plant Little Lime Punch in a container with at least a 16-inch diameter. This will allow root growth for many years before it will outgrow the pot. Little Lime Punch is easily incorporated into an existing landscape to add height, color, and texture. Space each plant 3-5 feet apart to allow room for the branches to spread.
