Little Missy Boxwood, or Buxus microphylla 'Little Missy', is a classic clipped hedge known for its mounded, compact form, and dense, deep-green foliage. Compared to its predecessor, the Little Missy Boxwood has both smaller foliage and form, with a height of 20 to 24 inches, and a spread of 20 to 24 inches. One of the best features of the Little Missy is its versatility. It can be pruned into a crisp, formal look or left as a soft, billowing, unsheared evergreen.
Native to West Virginia, the Little Missy Boxwood is extremely hardy, low-maintenance, and easy-to-grow. Its growing habit is compact and mounding. It’s deer and critter resistant and provides striking deep-green color all year long, even in the winter. It consistently ranks high in resistance to boxwood blight and is the optimal choice in areas where boxwood blight is increasingly a problem.
Little Missy Boxwood Care
The Little Missy Boxwood prefers full or partial sun, and will perform best in moist, well-drained soil. It requires average water and yearly spring feeding with organic fertilizer. Controlling mites and scale will pay off in the long run, and your Little Missy we have extra vigor, and more vivid coloring.
Although resistant, it is good to watch your Little Missy for leaf blotches, defoliation, and stem lesions, which are signs of boxwood blight.
Little Missy Boxwood Spacing
The Little Missy Boxwood is great for hedges, low privacy screens, or foundation plantings. You can use them as elegant edging along a driveway. To dress a patio, plant a single boxwood in a large container, or for a more informal flair, you can plant your Little Missy’s far enough apart to show off their individual shapes. They look especially stunning surrounded by low mounding grasses. For proper healthy mature shrubs, plant at least 20 inches apart, center on center.
