Growing Zones
Burning Bush may be the most sought after shrub for fall color. The intensely glowing red of the foliage is not to be missed. Little Moses has the same intense color while remaining very petite and low maintenance. This one almost doesn’t need any pruning, ever. The deciduous foliage also holds on to the fall color much longer than other varieties.
Plant Little Moses Burning Bush as an edging to a garden bed, an ultra low hedge accent along a driveway or sidewalk. Anywhere that the fall color will add an intense punch of wow. This little treasure would look great planted alone in containers on the front step or near a deck or patio. When the leaves fall in the winter, the twisty, corky bark will be an interesting focal point. This is one shrub that was really made for the smallest of garden spaces.
Little Moses Burning Bush Care
Burning Bush will tolerate a wide variety of soils and sun. Full sun to part shade will provide the best foliage color. Well drained and moist soil will help this plant to establish quickly. Fertilizing will need to be done annually. A well balanced, slow release food is recommended.
Pruning will not be necessary for this slow growing dwarf shrub. The slightly flattened overall shape should be left to its natural growth. MUlching around Burning Bush can make it even more low maintenance. A mulch of leaves or organic compost will help to bulk up the soil to make it more moisture retentive and all add nutrients in a slow release form.
Little Moses Burning Bush Spacing
Proper spacing is very important for the dwarf shrub. The overall height and width is 2-3 feet with a very compact growth habit. Spacing each plant at 30 inches on center will provide adequate air circulation if planting in a hedge.
