Growing Zones
Magenta Sprite Phlox is a gorgeous spring groundcover, with showy magenta-pink flowers. The pink flowers are also loaded with a sweet fragrance, signaling spring for you and pollinators year after year. Phlox are native to North America, so your Magenta Sprite Phlox will attract bees and butterflies while blooming. Enjoy the fragrant flowers in mid- to late spring.
The solid, deep pink Magenta Sprite Phlox flowers fill the top of the mounded plant, so placing a group of them together makes for a dramatic effect. Even after the flowers fade, the foliage carries on a carpet of green color. Since it grows to only 6 to 8 inches tall, Magenta Sprite makes an excellent border plant. It's also salt tolerant, so it's a safe border plant for sidewalks and entryways that ice over in winter. Plant one in a container as a filler plant with other flowering perennials for waves of color.
Magenta Sprite Phlox Care
Magenta Sprite will be winter and summer hardy in zones 3 through 8. Any hotter and summer heat will take its toll. Plant your phlox in full sun in soil that drains well. Magenta Sprite Phlox is easy to maintain. Just water the plant regularly, especially during hot, dry weeks. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring.
Magenta Sprite Phlox Spacing
Magenta Sprite Phlox reaches a mature size of 18 to 22 inches around. It will spread a little, but does not spread aggressively, so place border or grouped plants 18 to 22 inches apart.
