Spirea comes in many shapes and sizes. It can be white, or pink, but what really makes spirea special is its ability to provide beauty throughout the entire year. This particular perennial is different from other spireas in that it’s bright pink and flat, with an abundance of blooms during the summer. The best part is, it will maintain gold foliage throughout the rest of the summer, for a nice and pretty transition into autumn.
This shrub is characteristically similar to others of its species in behavior. It’s a very versatile perennial that is easily placed anywhere within the landscape. With its compact nature, it can be a great shrub within the landscape to provide both density and color in borders, or elsewhere. It is hardy, and will reward the garden with bright pink blooms, and gold foliage year after year.
Magic Carpet Spirea Care
This shrub thrives in hardiness zones 4-8 as a perennial. Fertilization would be beneficial in order to ensure bright and beautiful blooms in the summer, and this can be done in the spring with a light, granular all purpose plant food whilst watering. Be careful with fertilization, as this perennial is evergreen and would sustain chemical burns if fertilized with too strong of a treatment.
Blooming time can be extended through the deadheading process. This shrub benefits from full sun, but will survive, just with less vibrant blooms if in partial sun. This spirea requires moist soil, and it may need to be supplementally watered if any dry stretches are forecast.
Magic Carpet Spirea Spacing
This spirea is compact but grows to a height of two feet. It is also important to note that this shrub grows at a moderate rate, and will spread with time.
