Magical® Ruby Snow Hydrangea

The Magical® Ruby Snow Hydrangea is a compact shrub that puts on a fantastic floral display starting mid-summer. Tiny flowers bloom in cone-shaped clusters known as panicles. The flowers are white when they open, and as the nighttime temperature becomes cooler, the flowers on the lower portion of the panicles turn ruby red while the tips remain a crisp white. The showy blooms are offset by large, dark green foliage.

This plant is a vigorous grower that features sturdy woody stems. Use the Magical® Ruby Snow Hydrangea to create a border or hedge or as a focal point in a bed or mass planting. The flowers can be trimmed for use in fresh or dried arrangements. Grow this beauty as a perennial in zones 4 through 8

Magical® Ruby Snow Hydrangea Care

Plant this panicle hydrangea in full sun to develop strong stems and plenty of blooms. New plants need consistent water for the first year, but established plants generally only need a drink during a dry spell. The soil must be well drained because the roots do not like to be soggy. This plant prefers slightly acidic to alkaline soil that has high organic content. Apply a balanced fertilizer or a plant food formulated for roses once each spring.

Like other panicle hydrangeas, the Magical® Ruby Snow Hydrangea blooms on new wood. Trim the plant back as needed by no more than one-third in the early spring to encourage more branching, which will result in more flowers.

The Magical® Ruby Snow Hydrangea has an upright, branched growth habit that will reach 3 to 4 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide. Space plants 4 to 5 feet apart when creating a mass planting.
