Mars Madness Hibiscus can only be described as a beautiful, tropical, blooming overachiever. What makes this hibiscus unique is its purple foliage beginning stage that fades to a deep green as the seasons change. Bright pink blooms will emerge in the summer, and they won’t stop until the Fall. The long stems on this beauty even make it appropriate to include in cut flower bouquets.
Hardy in zones 5-8, one can count on this hibiscus to return every year. This fast growing perennial attracts butterflies, and hummingbirds. Usually, with hibiscus one has to worry about deer treating these blooms like candy. This is not the case for the deer-resistant Mars Madness Hibiscus.
Mars Madness Hibiscus Care
Much like tropical plants, this perennial will thrive in an area with full to partial sun. It requires an average amount of water, and prefers moist, well drained soil. It’s not partial to any certain pH level, and will thrive in most places provided it’s supplied with enough water.
Deadheading isn’t necessary to keep blooms coming in the summer. This hibiscus will emerge from the ground every spring, so can be cut down in the late winter/early spring.
Mars Madness Hibiscus Spacing
The Mars Madness Hibiscus grows three to four feet tall. It should be spaced three to four feet between plants.
