Marto™ Red Picotee Rockfoil (Saxifraga x arendsii ‘FLORSAXPR1’) decorates the garden with pink-and-white petals accented by bright yellow centers. Each small flower rests atop short, green stems, creating a delightful contrast against the mounded foliage. It provides a brilliant spring display from March to June, injecting bold color into rock gardens or border edges. Its tough nature and charming blooms add a fresh dimension to early-season landscapes.
This petite perennial remains only 4 to 6 inches tall and spans roughly 5 to 7 inches wide, making it well-suited for tight spaces. Deer and rabbits typically skip over its foliage, and it adapts well in both full sun and partly shaded sites. Its higher frost tolerance is an advantage, especially for growers who face unpredictable early spring weather. Combine it with other spring favorites for a bright tapestry of color, or enjoy it as a low-maintenance groundcover.
Marto™ Red Picotee Rockfoil Care
Plant this rockfoil in moist, well-draining soil with a slightly alkaline to neutral pH. Position it where it receives at least four hours of daily sunshine, though some afternoon shade may benefit it in warmer regions. Water once or twice a week during hot spells, reducing frequency when temperatures cool. A light, balanced fertilizer in early spring can support healthy bud formation and foliage growth.
Check for spent flower stalks during the blooming period and remove them to maintain a tidy appearance. Prune back any damaged leaves as needed to keep the clump looking neat. While it’s generally carefree, container-grown plants require additional watering and a good-quality potting mix. In climates with harsh winters, a layer of mulch can help protect the shallow roots.
Marto™ Red Picotee Rockfoil Spacing
Place each plant about 7 to 9 inches apart to create a continuous patch of spring interest. For potted displays, pick a container at least 8 inches across so the root system can establish and the foliage can spread comfortably.
