Phlox subulata, or creeping Phlox, is a lovely blooming ground cover. The Medley Mix Phlox features several varieties of Phlox subulata in shades of pink, purple, and white. The 5-petaled flowers bloom for about a month between early spring and early summer. The notched petals have a heart-shaped appearance, and some cultivars feature a dark eye, giving the flowers extra drama and dimension. Creeping Phlox is a prolific bloomer, and the flowers are nestled in a blanket of deep green needle-shaped foliage.

The Medley Mix Phlox spreads quickly, making it an effective ground cover. Feature these plants in the front of a mixed bed or a border along a walkway. Creeping Phlox is an excellent container plant that works as a spiller. The flowers attract pollinators, making this a beneficial plant for the garden. Phlox subulata is native to the eastern and central U.S. and grows in zones 3 through 9.

Medley Mix Phlox Care

Select a planting site that receives full sun and has loamy, well-drained soil. New plants need consistent water. Established plants need water during a dry period, and container-grown plants need regular water. Phlox are not heavy feeders, but give them a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer each spring to support growth.

Deadhead Phlox subulata to encourage more blooms and prolong the flower cycle. Cut the plants back after the flowers fade to create a tidy appearance for the rest of the summer and fall. Apply a thick layer of mulch in the fall to protect against winter weather.

Medley Mix Phlox Spacing

The Medley Mix Phlox plants grow about 6 inches tall and spread 1-2 feet. Space creeping Phlox about 24 inches apart, and the reaching stems will fill the empty spaces. Grow 2-3 plants in a 12-inch container.
