Growing Zones
Two for one! Now that’s a deal we can all appreciate. This spirea is sure to deliver. In early spring its graceful branches are covered with light and airy white blossoms well before the bright yellow leaves appear. Like a chameleon, its leaves change color. As the spring fades and the leaves mature, their color develops into more of a chartreuse green and delivers a final fiery orange blast of color, lasting well into the fall.
Mellow Yellow is a low-maintenance, deciduous shrub that is both disease resistant and drought tolerant. It is resistant to deer and insect damage, and perfect to use out in the open landscape where you need something reliable without a lot of required maintenance.
Mellow Yellow Spirea Care
Mellow Yellow is a sun lover. It can take some shade but does best in full sun where its leaves can develop the full potential of their color. Although tolerant of most soil types, it does best in a well-drained soil where it can receive average moisture.
The plant requires little or no pruning except perhaps to maintain a desired height and shape. If pruning is done, it should take place immediately after flowering.
Mellow Yellow Spirea Spacing
This spirea can reach a height and width of 3 to 5 feet, making it an excellent choice as an accent plant or for use as a mass planting along a garden border or fence. Plant these spirea at least 3 feet apart, center on center, or 5 feet apart if you are not making a border.
