Japanese Maple is known for slender trunks and delicate foliage. As the name implies, the Metamorphosa™ Japanese Maple is all about change. The small leaves emerge in the spring as a vibrant shade of yellow, and a pink margin appear that later turns to white. Flecks of reddish-orange appear in the green foliage by the height of summer. The leaves shift to predominantly orange during the fall and later turn red-violet. Green flowers bloom in the spring, but the foliage is the true draw of this showstopper.
This compact tree makes a beautiful addition to a flower garden or can be used for specimen planting. Feature the Metamorphosa™ Japanese Maple in a container to take advantage of flexible placement options. This deciduous tree grows as a perennial in USDA zones 5b through 8. Japanese Maples are deer-resistant for added convenience,
Metamorphosa™ Japanese Maple Care
Plant Metamorphosa™ Japanese Maple in full to part sun. This plant needs well-draining acidic soil. Japanese Maples have shallow root systems. Thoroughly drench the soil around the plant to ensure the entire root system gets a drink. Newly planted trees will need water daily, and established plants will need water weekly. Apply a thin layer of mulch around the tree to help keep the soil damp.
Minimal pruning is necessary to maintain a tidy shape and trim overgrowth during the winter. Wait until the second growing season before applying fertilizer. Use a slow-release fertilizer in the early spring.
Metamorphosa™ Japanese Maple Spacing
The Metamorphosa™ Japanese Maple will reach 5 to 13 feet tall once mature and 3 to 10 feet wide. Space the plants so the canopy can comfortably spread out.
