The showy flowers of the Mildred Azalea or Rhododendron 'Mildred' engulf the shrub during mid-spring. The trumpet-shaped flowers measure around two inches and are a lovely deep purple hue. The pronounced stamens and slight curl of the petals provide texture and added dimension. The flowers bloom in rounded clusters for an impressive display.

Mildred Azalea Care

Select a spot with part sun and slightly acidic, fertile, moist, and well-drained soil. Azaleas have shallow roots, so water deeply and consistently for the first year. Established plants prefer damp conditions so continue to provide water during a dry spell. Fertilize using a balanced plant food or a product intended for azaleas.

Remove dead or damaged growth at any time. Shape the shrub after the flowers fade but before new buds emerge.
