Milk and Honey Astilbe has a fluffy, creamy white bundle of flowers that enhances a garden or container. Also known as Astilbe chinensis, this pretty perennial adds grace and texture to the landscape. The creamy white flowers begin to bloom in mid and late summer, so this is a perfect "moon garden" plant for homeowners to enjoy on warm summer evenings.
The flowers of Milk and Honey Astilbe arise from bushy, slightly marbled foliage that is pretty on its own. The plant reaches about 30 inches high and 20 inches wide. Deer and rabbits tend to ignore the pretty flower plumes and bees love them. Astilbes grow best in fertile soil and light shade or filtered sun. They are perfect for part-shade containers or under small trees. The plants can tolerate cold down to zone 4 and the heat of zone 9.
Milk and Honey Astilbe Care
Milk and Honey Astilbe needs good, rich soil and regular watering. Although this variety can handle periods of drought, it does best with consistent watering. Fertilize the plant in late spring before flowering begins. Divide the plant every 3 or 4 years to keep it healthy. Leave faded foliage on through winter.
Milk and Honey Astilbe Spacing
A group of Milk and Honey Astilbe adds a white, sea-like effect to the landscape and helps control weeds. Place your astilbes about 18 to 20 inches apart from one center to another.
