Yarrow is a native perennial prized for its drought resistance and long blooming period during the summer. Milly Rock™ Rose Yarrow is a fantastic cultivar bred to have intense color and foliage that stays fresh and green throughout the growing season. Milly Rock™ Rose blooms nonstop from late spring to fall, providing nectar for local beneficial pollinators, hummingbirds, and butterflies, and fits nicely into a meadow or naturalized garden area.
Achillea millefolium Milly Rock™ Rose looks great in the front of a garden border or as a filler element in a seasonal container planting. The bright rosy pink flowers remain vibrant through heat and drought, with only a tiny amount of deadheading needed. Deer are not prone to browse on yarrow, and very few diseases attack this hardy grower.
Milly Rock™Rose Yarrow Care
Milly Rock™ Rose requires full sun and well-draining soil. A soil that is not compacted or overly rich is perfect, with neutral to alkaline pH. Yarrow is drought resistant and will grow with little supplemental watering after it matures. Mulching the root zone early in the spring will help the soil retain more moisture and cool the root zone. Provide about 1 inch of water weekly for the first 1-2 years in the summer. Yarrow is perfect for planting in a rain garden's transition area (zone 3).
Deadheading will encourage continued blooming, although it is not necessary. Plants are naturally dense and do not require pinching to remain compact. Fertilizing is only needed once a year in the early spring. Apply a granular, slow-release, balanced fertilizer to give the roots and flowers extra nutrition. Clean up yarrow in late winter. Leaving the spent flowers and foliage in place over winter helps to insulate the crown and provide shelter for wildlife.
Milly Rock™ Rose Yarrow Spacing
Milly Rock™ Rose Yarrow is very compact and only reaches a height and spread of 10-12 inches. The plants should be placed 10 inches apart on center when planted in large groups. Planting this yarrow in containers is excellent for small spaces and will require at least an 8-inch diameter pot.
