Mini Skirt Hosta offers a fun and novel take on the popular shade-loving Hosta. Mini Skirt has a miniaturized growth habit that only reaches 5” tall and 13” wide. This scaled-down size makes it perfect for borders, tucking amongst other plants or adding foliage interest to tiny spaces. Mini Skirt features thick, wavy leaves with deep green centers and creamy edges. Lavender flowers with dark purple stripes reach high above the plant in summer, inviting hummingbirds to visit.
This tidy plant is perfect for planting in containers, troughs, and planters on shady patios. Mini Skirt Hosta is particularly well suited to narrow city gardens, thanks to its small size and ability to shrug off air pollution and car exhaust. This is an easy-care, adaptable, and shade-loving plant with exceptional performance in zones 3-9.
Mini Skirt Hosta Care
Plant Mini skirt Hosta in neutral to slightly acidic soil that is moist, well-drained, and highly organic. If planting in a container, make sure that the soil is quick-draining. Apply compost and mulch in the fall in cold climates to prevent frost heaving. Hostas like Mini Skirt need full to partial shade in the summer. A little bit of morning sun will make Mini Skirt’s leaves more vibrant, but afternoon sun can prove fatal.
Clear out old foliage in early winter to prevent slug infestations. Apply slug bait in early spring if you notice holes in the center of your Hosta leaves. After plants are fully established, minimize mulch use to prevent slugs.
Mini Skirt Hosta Spacing
This is a compact Hosta variety that only requires 13” of space. This gives it enough air circulation and room for the roots to grow even when mature.
