A true red, semi-double rose that blooms non-stop through the summer to the first frost. Presenting Miracle on the Hudson™ Rose. It is named in honor of the crew and passengers of flight 1549 and is the winner of ‘Most Outstanding Rose’ at the 2014 Biltmore International Rose Trials.
Miracle on the Hudson™ has all of the great parts of a rose, such as continuous blooms and a lovely cinnamon sweet fragrance. It also is one of the lowest maintenance shrub roses available. There is no need to plant a low growing perennial or shrub in front of this rose. The foliage is lush and full on the stem all of the way to the ground. The fragrant blooms attract beneficial pollinators all summer, then turn into brilliant orange hips for the fall and winter. Birds and other wildlife look forward to these tasty morsels to get through the winter. Shrub roses can be grown as a low growing hedge or as an individual element in the garden. Miracle on the Hudson™ would grow well in a container on a patio or deck. It's more compact size makes it perfect for the smaller garden.
Miracle on the Hudson™ Rose Care
Miracle on the Hudson™ Rose grows best in full sun with a well drained, moist soil. An average soil texture and neutral pH is acceptable. Fertilizing needs to be done on an annual schedule. A well balanced, slow release food applied early in the spring as the new foliage appears will help to help this shrub rose to maintain vigorous growth and blooming.
Pruning is only needed once a year. Early in the spring, cutting out any dead, dying, diseased or diagonal branches.Roses are not drought tolerant and require additional irrigation, especially during extended hot and dry spells. Mulching with an organic compost or leaves will help the soil become more moisture retentive over time. Roses develop mildew and fungal diseases when watered from above. Using soaker hoses or a drip irrigation system to keep the leaves dry will greatly cut down on disease infections.
Miracle on the Hudson™ Rose Spacing
Miracle on the Hudson™ has been bred to stay lower and more compact than other shrub roses. The mature height is 3-4 feet and the width is 3-4 feet. Spacing of 40 inches on center will ensure proper air circulation around this lovely addition to your garden.
