Growing Zones
This perennial is a fantastic plant for shady to partially shady areas in your garden where you want to add bunches of bright pink flowers in early to mid-spring. It will thrive in the spots too shady for spring-flowering bulbs. The thick, dark green, glossy, deeply veined leaves make it a great foliage plant after the blooms have faded. Miss Piggy Pigsqueak will be 16 to 18 inches tall with a 28-to-32-inch spread. Grow this perennial in USDA hardiness zones 4 through 9.
This salt-tolerant plant attracts bees and butterflies. It’s deer and rabbit resistant. Include Miss Piggy Pigsqueak in your border gardens, as an edging plant along walkways and fences, or in mass plantings as a ground cover plant. It will take on the thriller role in a container garden. Cut a few flowers from this upright growing plant and bring them indoors to create a lovely bouquet.
Miss Piggy Pigsqueak Care
This easy to care for plant will perform best in part shade, but can handle any sun exposure. We recommend providing some afternoon shade in southern gardens. The soil needs to drain well but can be almost any pH level. Water regularly, but allow the dirt to dry completely between watering.
Add a layer of mulch to the base of the plant in the spring or fall to help protect the roots and keep the soil moist. The mulch will also add nutrients to the soil naturally as well. You can add a slow release fertilizer in the early spring but it is not required.
Miss Piggy Pigsqueak Spacing
Space plants 28 to 32 inches apart to give them room to spread and grow to mature size with proper air circulation and sunlight.
