Mojave® Mango Purslane (Portulaca oleracea 'WGPORMM25') brings energy to the garden with mango-gold flowers and a narrow ring of scarlet at the center. This compact annual thrives in scorching weather and continues producing color all the way to frost. Its trailing habit looks dynamic when spilling over container edges or filling open ground. Pollinators appreciate the striking contrast of its petals.
Mojave® Mango is prized for heat tolerance, drought resistance, and low-maintenance requirements. The succulent foliage stores moisture, allowing the plant to stay perky during dry spells. These attributes make Mojave® Mango Purslane an excellent option for mass plantings, groundcover, and containers in full sun. Deer typically overlook it, and its self-cleaning flowers save time on upkeep.
Mojave® Mango Purslane Care
Place this purslane in well-draining soil with a slightly sandy or average composition. Give it direct sun for at least six hours to support abundant flowering. Water sparingly, focusing on moderate hydration rather than saturated soil. Light feeding once or twice a season is sufficient for consistent blooms.
Clip away any spent stems to maintain a tidy appearance, although heavy pruning is rarely needed. Container-grown purslane benefits from a porous pot and a potting mix that drains easily. It remains evergreen in frost-free regions, but in colder climates, it is treated as an annual and replaced each spring. If you bring containers indoors during winter, reduce watering to prevent rot and place them in a sunny, preferably south-facing, window.
Mojave® Mango Purslane Spacing
Provide roughly 12 to 16 inches between each plant in ground plantings or garden rows. Space them slightly closer if you want a dense, groundcover effect. For individual pots, select a container at least 8 inches wide to accommodate the root system.
