- Height 4-8 Inches
- Width 12-16 Inches
- Use as a spiller when using in containers
- Tough as nails plant with beautiful yellow flowers!
This low-growing stunner has sunshine-yellow blooms that last all summer. Once planted, Mojave® Yellow requires virtually no care. A succulent with long-lasting, green, cylindrical-shaped leaves, it forms a tough, dense mat that grows 4-8 inches high with a trailing habit. The ruffled, rose-like flowers stand facing up above the foliage. Mojave® has larger flowers than other varieties. Its heat tolerance is another great attribute – a good choice for warm climates and poor soils.
Mojave® Yellow purslane is drought, humidity, and salt tolerant. There are no notable pests or diseases, and it is deer resistant. The flowers of this South American native attract bees and butterflies. It creates an attractive spiller in a container, trailing up to 16 inches. In the landscape it does not spread outside its bounds, making it ideal for smaller gardens. It is a gorgeous addition to a cottage garden whether in pots or as a mass planting. It looks lovely in a rock or crevice garden, or spilling over a rock wall.
Mojave® Yellow Purslane Care
You do not need to fertilize this plant, but you can give it a balanced, slow-release fertilizer at planting time to encourage healthy growth and lots of flowers, if you wish. Deadheading is not needed; it will self-seed without becoming invasive. Give it an average amount of water when the top of the soil is dry. Water at the base of the plant to avoid damaging the flowers. Plant in average to poor soil such as well-drained, sandy or rock soil; it will tolerate clay soil.
Use a container that drains well. Mojave® Yellow purslane requires a full-sun location with 6-8 hours daily. Its flowers close at night and open the next day.
Mojave® Yellow Purslane Spacing
Grow six 4.5-inch plants in a 12-inch pot. Combine Mojave® Yellow with other colors of this variety. For example, plant it with Mojave® Fuchsia and Mojave® Tangerine for a vibrant mix. In the landscape, space them 8 to 10 inches apart. They will each spread 12 to 16 inches.
