The Monsieur Jules Elie Peony, Paeonia Lactiflora Monsieur Jules Elie, is a captivating, fragrant champion, with wide, overlapping ruffles and two tones of rose-pink petals with shimmering tips. These peonies are well-known for their double-bomb blossoms, packed with elegant petals. Monsieur Jules Elie Peonies are tall-growing, between 30-36 inches, with luscious chartreuse foliage and compacted stems holding mammoth buds which blossom into gorgeous flowers in early June. They are favorite cut flowers, and popular in arrangements and bouquets.

Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit, Monsieur Jules Elie Peonies are deer and rabbit resistant, virtually pest free, and very long-lived. These incredible stunners will bloom reliably for over a century if they are well-tended. Their buds have a sweet sugary nectar that attracts pollinators of all kinds and is a particular favorite of bees and butterflies. Their foliage remains a vibrant shade of green, even after the flower has bloomed. These peonies are low-maintenance flowers that require minimal effort to create brilliant blooms, year after year.

Monsieur Jules Elie Peony Care

Monsieur Jules Elie Peonies should be planted in autumn, in a sheltered location where they will receive full or partial sun. Before planting, the soil should be alkaline and enriched with compost and high-phosphorus fertilizer, especially heavier soils. Plants should be set 1 to 2 inches below the surface of the soil. It is important to keep the soil evenly moist and well-drained after planting. Peonies need regular, deep watering, especially during hot summer months. Be sure to support your peonies, as their heavy heads tend to arch toward the ground in high winds and rain. They may not blossom for several years until they are well established.

Your peonies should be deadheaded in the late spring. Once the flower is cut, leave the stems and foliage until the fall to help nourish the plant for the upcoming growing season. In the fall, after the foliage has started to die down, peonies should be cut to the ground. In the spring, new growth will appear from the roots.

Monsieur Jules Elie Peonies produce gorgeous clusters that are perfect for mixed beds and borders in both the city and country. They provide beautiful backdrops to shorter spring and summer plants, but will suffer if they must compete with shrubs or trees. Peonies are good for mass plantings, and using them as cut flowers in bouquets and arrangements can keep them healthy.

Monsieur Jules Elie Peony Spacing

Plant these peonies 30-36 Inches apart, center on center. If you are trying to create a garden border with the plants, plant 30 inches apart for a seamless look. For some spacing between the plants, space them out at least 36 inches apart, center on center.
