Masses of pure white flowers cover Rhododendron indica 'Mrs. G.G. Gerbing' in spring, creating a dramatic display against its deep green evergreen foliage. Each bloom spans 3 to 4 inches, and is lightly fragrant. A classic Southern Indica Azalea, it reaches 6 to 8 feet in both height and width, making it ideal for foundation plantings, hedges, or specimen plantings. This variety occasionally produces a light rebloom in fall, extending its seasonal interest.

This evergreen azalea thrives in warm climates and is one of the best at tolerating heat and humidity. It prefers dappled shade but tolerates more sun than many other azalea varieties. With a dense, mounding habit, it works well in woodland gardens, mixed borders, or a natural privacy screen. Resistant to deer and adaptable to different soil types, it offers reliable beauty with minimal maintenance.

Mrs. G.G. Gerbing Azalea Care

Plant in well-drained, acidic soil enriched with organic matter. Regular watering is essential during the establishment period, after which the shrub exhibits good drought tolerance. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered light through tall trees provides the best conditions for healthy growth and abundant flowering. Apply an acid-formulated fertilizer after blooming to support future growth. A thick layer of mulch around the base helps retain soil moisture and regulate temperature.

After flowering, prune lightly to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Remove dead or damaged wood as needed. If grown in containers in colder climates, bring indoors before the first frost to protect from winter damage.

Mrs. G.G. Gerbing Azalea Spacing

For hedges or mass plantings, space plants 5 feet apart to create a dense screen. For individual specimens or mixed borders, allow at least 8-12 feet between plants to showcase their natural form. When planting in containers, select a pot at least 16 inches wide to accommodate the root system and provide room for growth.
