A hosta that truly wows in the garden! Munchkin Fire Hosta has vibrant chartreuse-yellow leaves that light the even the shadiest gardens aglow with its phosphorescent-like foliage. The narrow leaves are shorter than other hosta varieties, and lends a tidy, rounded habit. Lavender flowers are held aloft on strong stems in midsummer. The flowers feature dark-purple stripes, and strike a beautiful scene atop the chartreuse leaves.
This miniature hosta has a petite growth habit that only reaches 7” in height and 15” in spread. Illuminate your shade garden with this little beauty by planting it near walkways and borders, or tucking it into the garden to add light and visual interest where you need it most. It’s ideal for small city gardens, fanciful fairy gardens, narrow spaces, and even containers or troughs in shady seating areas.
Munchkin Fire Hosta Care
Hostas love the shade! Site in a garden that receives a bit of morning sun, dappled shade, or full shade. Munchkin Fire prefers moist, well-drained, and highly organic soil. Soil pH should be neutral to slightly acidic for best performance. Keep your Hosta watered in dry periods to ensure their soil remains moist.
Apply a thick layer of compost and mulch in the fall in cold climates. This will add organic material to the soil, conserve mixture and prevent frost heaving. Clearing out the season’s dead foliage in early winter can prevent future slug infestations. If you notice holes in the center of the leaves, apply slug bait in the early spring. Minimize mulch after the plant is established to prevent slugs.
Munchkin Fire Hosta Spacing
This small Hosta variety only requires 15” of space between plants. So you can fit a lot of these hostas in a garden!
