This dwarf weigela is primarily grown for its attractive tricolored green, creamy yellow and bright pink foliage. The wavy leaves on this deciduous shrub turn bright red and gold in the fall. This colorful plant will stand out in your garden. If you’ve never grown a shrub strictly for its foliage, My Monet Sunset will be the one to get you hooked on using leaves to add color and texture to your gardens.

Weigela florida 'Sunset' produces some dark pink trumpet-shaped flowers on old wood in the spring. It’s not a prolific flower producer like other weigela varieties. The flowers are popular with hummingbirds and butterflies. It’s also deer and disease resistant. This shrub won the Boskoop Royal Horticultural Society Bronze Medal.

My Monet Sunset Weigela Care

My Monet Sunset can be used in a sunny location in perennial or shrub borders, foundation plantings, containers or along paths or patios. It can be planted in locations where you would consider planting a low growing perennial. My Monet Sunset is a slow grower making it perfect for small gardens and containers. Fertilize in early spring with a slow-release fertilizer formulated for trees and shrubs as directed on the package.

This shrub will grow to be 12 to 18 inches in height and width in a mounded shape in USDA hardiness zones 5 to 8. My Monet Sunset performs best in well-drained soils but is adaptable to other soil types. It does not need pruning but if pruning to shape it is desired, prune after the flowering period ends.

My Monet Sunset Weigela Spacing

To create a garden border, plant My Monet 12 inches apart center on center. For an informal look, space multiple plants 18 to 24 inches apart.
