The Nannyberry Viburnum is a beautiful, tall, perennial shrub that blooms in the late spring. It provides beautiful white blooms. When most other flowers haven’t bloomed yet, this reliable shrub will help us welcome the warm season in late May with its many small white flowers that come together to create a beautiful flower contrasted by deep green foliage. Then, it transitions to blue and black berries that the birds will love. In the autumn, foliage turns a shade of red.

This viburnum is a low maintenance perennial shrub that will grow vertically year after year, and is widely hardy in zones 2-8. Not only is it very hardy, it attracts a wide range of wildlife including butterflies, and songbirds as well. To add on to this shrub’s positive characteristics, it’s deer resistant and rabbit resistant. This shrub would be a beautiful border addition, or outside of fences where other shrubs would otherwise be at risk with wildlife.

Nannyberry Viburnum Care

This perennial will thrive in either full or partial sun. It will survive with dry, or moist soil, though for the flowers sake it’s best to plant in moist, well drained soil. It can survive even if the soil is too moist. It doesn’t need to be watered unless it’s been dry for more than several days to a week.

Viburnum doesn’t need to be pruned much, but perhaps just to keep it contained. This should be done after blooms are spent, as pruning it too early will result in no flower activity.

Nannyberry Viburnum Spacing

This viburnum grows very tall to heights of 12-16 feet. For this reason, it should be spaced at 8-12 feet as well as it will get bigger with time.
