A large-bloomed and showy version of the native Delphinium species from the Eastern United States, New Millennium Purple Passion Larkspur is a treat to behold. The large purple blooms attract hummingbirds and butterflies, as well as the eye of any passersby. Flowers bloom on tall, strong stems that can reach up to 5’ tall! These purple blooms feature a white center that adds even more visual interest to the abundant spires of flowers.

From borders to wildflower plantings to colorful cottage gardens, this Larkspur is a gorgeous addition to any garden. Plant it en masse to create a tall swath of color in a large space, or plant with other colorful flowers for a fabulous cut-flower planting. The tall spires and lush foliage also make it an outstanding specimen plant in the landscape.

New Millennium Purple Passion Larkspur Care

Purple Passion Larkspur does best in rich soil that is either neutral or alkaline. Apply compost in the spring, and fertilize regularly. Some of the spires might get so tall that they require staking. This is a dependable perennial in Zones 3-7, and requires at least four hours of sun per day.

Allow the soil around this plant to dry before watering. Cut back old growth in the early spring to allow room for new growth and blooms.

This is a vigorous Larkspur that can get as tall as 5’. However, it does not tend to spread much more than 2’. Allow 18-24” of space from other plants.
