New Vintage™ Terracotta Yarrow (Achillea millefolium ‘Balvinterra’) enchants the eye with warm terracotta-orange flower clusters that soften to a gentle yellowish hue. Each flat-topped bloom appears on upright stems rising around 26 inches high, creating a commanding presence in sunny garden beds or containers. Its fern-like foliage stays neat and compact, adding an appealing texture and contrast to the bold flower heads. This yarrow stands out for its extended blooming window, from late spring through the heat of summer and often into early autumn.
New Vintage™ Terracotta Yarrow is deer resistant, reducing the chance of damaged flower beds. Its ability to thrive in lean, well-drained soils makes it a prime candidate for xeriscape or low-maintenance gardening. It was developed from the hardy species Achillea millefolium, native to many parts of North America, and is fully hardy in zones 4 through 9. Whether used in mass plantings for a dramatic sweep of color, perched along borders, or featured in container gardens, it adds a grounded warmth to outdoor spaces.
New Vintage™ Terracotta Yarrow Care
Full sun is key for maximizing both flower production and overall vigor. Although it handles tough growing conditions, it performs best in average or dry soils that drain quickly. Overly rich soils or excess irrigation can lead to floppy stems. During the initial planting phase, water enough to help roots take hold, then allow the top layer of soil to dry between sessions. Fertilizing is optional—most Achillea prefer nutrient-lean conditions—so an occasional top-dressing with compost is plenty.
Encourage re-blooming by trimming back faded or spent blooms. Light deadheading prolongs the display of fresh flower clusters and maintains a tidy appearance. A more pronounced mid-season trim can stimulate a second flush of blooms, though it’s not strictly required. In cooler climates, leaving some seed heads may lend visual interest in winter and provide potential food sources for small wildlife.
New Vintage™ Terracotta Yarrow Spacing
Allow about 12 to 14 inches between plants if forming a mass planting to let each mature clump reach 10 to 12 inches wide without crowding. In a container setting, choose a pot at least 10 inches across and 8 inches deep to accommodate the root system. This spacing ensures strong growth, proper air circulation, and a standout display of terracotta blooms.
