New Vintage™ White Yarrow (Achillea millefolium ‘Balvinwite’) produces clean white flower clusters with soft cream centers from early summer into early fall. The flat-topped blooms rise just above finely cut gray-green foliage, forming a compact, upright clump that reaches about 12 to 14 inches tall and up to 24 inches wide. Unlike older yarrows that brown quickly or split open at the center, this selection holds its shape and color through heat. We’ve grown it in our sunny borders and appreciate how reliably it reblooms after cutting back.
New Vintage™ White is a new selection of yarrow with improved form and longer bloom. The foliage carries a light herbal fragrance and resists deer and rabbits. Once established, it readily tolerates drought, coastal exposure, and urban conditions. Plant it en masse for a bright drift of summer color, edge a walkway, or tuck it into cottage, prairie, or xeriscape designs. It also performs well in containers, where the lacy foliage softens harder lines and pairs easily with ornamental grasses and sun-loving perennials.
New Vintage™ White Yarrow Care
Grow in full sun for sturdy stems and consistent flowering. This yarrow prefers lean, well-drained soil and performs best in sandy or loamy ground with a slightly acidic to neutral pH, roughly 5.5 to 7.0. Avoid heavy, wet soil, which can lead to stem rot and flopping. During the first growing season, water regularly. After establishment, allow the soil to dry between waterings; mature plants tolerate dry to moderate moisture. Fertilize lightly in early spring with a balanced product, but avoid rich soil or frequent feeding, as excessive fertility encourages weak growth.
Deadhead spent blooms by cutting just above a set of lateral buds to promote repeat flowering. After the first strong flush, shear plants back by about one-third to refresh foliage and encourage a second round of blooms. Every two to three years, divide clumps in early spring to maintain vigor and prevent overcrowding. In colder zones, leave some stems in place over winter to protect the crown, and then clean up in early spring before new growth emerges.
New Vintage™ White Yarrow Spacing
Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart in borders or mass plantings to allow for air circulation and natural spread. In rows or edging, plant closer to 12 inches for a more continuous look. For containers, choose a pot at least 12 to 14 inches wide for a single plant. Combine with drought-tolerant companions such as blue fescue, lavender, salvia, or sedum, keeping all selections in well-drained soil and full sun for best performance.
