If you are looking for a small weeping tree for a rock garden, then the Niagara Falls Eastern White Pine is the perfect choice. Growing to only 3 to 6 feet tall, this Pinus strobus develops a cascading and ground-covering structure that is highly unusual and attractive. Furthermore, Niagara Falls produces stunning two-tone needles that are long and green-blue in color.
With its evergreen needles, the Niagara Falls Eastern White Pine will provide great winter interest and form. It is low maintenance and is even resistant to both deer and rabbits, which makes it ideal for both rural and urban landscapes. As an unusual specimen, you will want to grow it somewhere it will be noticed–a rock garden is ideal. The original species is native to parts of North America.
Niagara Falls Eastern White Pine Care
As a slow and low-growing dwarf specimen, there is no danger of damaging overhead structures or utilities. However, it should be noted that the Niagara Falls Eastern White Pine struggles in areas of high urban pollution. When planting, a location that receives full sun is recommended as well as free-draining soil that is neutral to acidic. Regular watering is needed on planting and until it is established.
Only light and occasional pruning is necessary. Only cut into new growth, as it may fail to regrow if cut back into old wood.
Niagara Falls Eastern White Pine Spacing
When mature, the Niagara Falls Eastern White Pine can grow to 3 to 6 feet tall with a 4 to 8 foot spread. To appreciate its stunning form and structure, a spacing of 6 to 8 feet is recommended.
