With its sumptuous, deep-purple foliage, the Night Embers Stonecrop Sedum is a spectacular perennial. If its leaves weren’t enough, this stonecrop displays show-stopping clusters of pink, star-shaped flowers in late summer and early fall. Unlike some other sedums, Night Embers develops strong, sturdy, upright stems, which are less likely to flop over during the season. Being rabbit resistant, this plant is ideal for rural gardens and is loved by pollinators when in bloom.

This stonecrop loves a hot and sunny spot and is considered low maintenance and drought tolerant once it has settled in. The Night Embers Stonecrop Sedum provides great impact when grown en masse in a border, but is equally good for growing in a rock or gravel garden. As a tough perennial, it can be grown in zones 3 through 9. This succulent is also suitable for growing in a large container.

Night Embers Stonecrop Sedum Care

For this sun-loving sedum to really thrive, it needs to be grown in full sun and on a well-drained soil. It can tolerate poor soils and rarely needs fertilizing unless it is grown in the most meager of substrates. Once established, Night Embers can cope with little moisture; however, it will need to be watered regularly for the first growing season at least. Once in situ, little ongoing care is required, almost to the point where it thrives on neglect.

In late fall, the spent flower heads can either be removed or left to provide some winter interest and food for the birds. In early spring, any faded and tatty foliage can be cut to the ground and removed to make way for new growth. Night Embers can be divided in spring every 2 to 3 years.

Night Embers Stonecrop Sedum Spacing

When fully grown, the Night Embers Stonecrop Sedum can reach 24-26 inches high and wide. A spacing of 24-30 inches between plants is recommended when planting out in groups.
