Growing Zones
The stunning Orange Dream Japanese Maple or Acer palmatum is a shrub-like tree that changes colors throughout the growing season but will always look amazing. The leaves begin the spring as a golden yellow with pink along the edges and transition to shades of yellow and orange. Towards the end of summer, the colors intensify into a bold yellow just in time for fall. The Orange Dream Japanese Maple will reach 8 to 10 feet tall, so it is relatively compact but still needs some space to spread out.
This tree has an upright growth habit, and it can be used along a border or as the centerpiece in a bed or near a patio. The Orange Dream Japanese Maple can even live in a container, allowing for more flexible placement options. The branches make a wonderful habitat for songbirds and small animals. This maple grows as a perennial in USDA zones 5 through 8.
Orange Dream Japanese Maple Care
The Orange Dream Japanese Maple needs full sun to partial shade but will thrive in dappled light. Keep the soil consistently damp during the growing season and water weekly. As the plant becomes established, it will be more drought-tolerant. Soil should be rich, acidic to neutral, and moist but well-drained.
This tree naturally maintains a desirable shape, but it can be trimmed as needed. Feed this maple using a slow-release fertilizer in the spring to help support new growth.
Orange Dream Japanese Maple Spacing
The Orange Dream Japanese Maple will grow 8 to 10 feet tall and spread 5 to 6 feet wide. Space plants 4 to 6 feet apart from other shrubs and buildings.
