Oso Easy® Pathfinder™ Red rose (Rosa × ‘ChewRedmond’) delivers a true, saturated red that holds its color from late spring until frost. The flowers are large, single to semi-double, and set against glossy dark green foliage that stays attractive all season. Mature plants reach about 2–3 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide, forming a broad, mounded shrub that fills space quickly. Unlike traditional hybrid teas that demand constant care, this landscape rose flowers continuously with minimal intervention. This is our favorite red rose for its classic blooms and low-maintenance routine.
Bred for modern landscape performance, Pathfinder™ Red combines strong disease resistance with steady rebloom. The foliage shows excellent tolerance to black spot and powdery mildew when grown in full sun with good airflow. Light fragrance adds another layer of appeal, and the blooms are suitable for cutting. Established plants handle short dry spells better than older garden roses. Use it in mass plantings, low hedges, foundation beds, cottage gardens, or large patio containers where bold color is needed from early summer through fall.
Oso Easy® Pathfinder™ Red Rose Care
Plant in full sun, providing at least six hours of direct light daily for best flowering and plant health. Choose well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH, ideally between 6.0 and 7.0. Amend heavy clay with compost to improve drainage before planting. Water deeply after installation and maintain consistent moisture during the first growing season; afterward, irrigate when the top few inches of soil become dry. Apply a granular fertilizer formulated for roses in early spring as growth begins, and repeat lightly in early summer if growth or bloom slows. Avoid late-season fertilizing, which can encourage tender growth before winter.
Prune in early spring once buds begin to swell. Reduce the plant by about one-third to one-half its height to encourage strong new shoots. Thin out weak or crossing stems and remove any winter-damaged wood. Deadheading is optional, as this rose continues to bloom without it, but trimming spent clusters can tidy the appearance.
Oso Easy® Pathfinder™ Red Rose Spacing
Space plants 3–4 feet apart when planting in rows or mass beds to allow air circulation and full development. For a low hedge effect, stagger plants slightly and space 3 feet apart. In containers, choose a pot at least 18–20 inches wide with drainage holes. Pair with hardy geraniums, fountain grass, or trailing calibrachoa for a sunny container combination that complements the red blooms.
