Growing Zones
Panther® Ninebark is a must have for the woodland garden. The deep purple black leaves and beautiful peeling foliage of the stems makes this variety a true stunner. The slightly smaller size of native Ninebark aslo make this variety good for the smaller garden.
This deciduous shrub has four seasons of interest. Beautiful, dark glossy leaves during the warm seasons make way for the gorgeous, peeling bark stems during the winter months. As the shrub gets older, the stems peel more and reveal many colors of bark giving this shrub its common name of Ninebark.
Panther® Ninebark Patent PPAF Care
Ninebark grows well in a variety of soil textures and pH. A moist, well draining soil will help NInebark to grow vigorously. The deep color of the leaves are tolerant of full sun and also do well in part shade.
The more compact growth of Panther® Ninebark makes maintenance very easy and quick. Any cutting back should be done after the blooming is complete. Dead, dying, diseased and diagonal branches can be removed in late winter before leaf growth. The overall “bones” of the shrub are easier to see then. A slow release fertilizer can be applied in the early spring , but is not annually needed. A mulching of leaves or organic compost in fall will keep this beauty happy through the winter months.
Panther® NInebark Patent PPAF Spacing
Ninebark is best planted on its own as a specimen shrub. When planting other plants around it, keep a diameter of at least 2 feet from the base. If planting in a group of more than one, a spacing of 3 feet on center is ideal. Panther® is more resistant to mildews than other Ninebark, but will still appreciate the room for proper air circulation.
