Bring your fantasy Hawaiian vacation to life! Paraplu Pink Ink® Rose of Sharon’s blooms can transform your backyard into a beautiful Hawaiian retreat. Also known as Hibiscus syriacus, this flowering deciduous shrub is the perfect sized flowering hedge, reaching 8 feet tall and 5 feet wide. Its dark green foliage is enveloped by glorious palm-sized white flowers. The blooms have a spectacular blazing pink star center, surrounded by brilliantly bright white petals. Even hummingbirds can’t resist its beautiful allure.
Paraplu Pink Ink® Rose of Sharon is not only beautiful but adaptable. Instead of decorating your patio with Tropical Hibiscus, why not invest in a tough perennial that will reliably bloom year after year? Native to Asia, these plants are hardy to zones 9 through 5 and can survive winter temperatures up to −15 °F. This Rose of Sharon can be used in so many applications like screening a neighbor’s junkyard or creating a thrilling focal point in a container. Just plant it anywhere and you can’t go wrong!
Paraplu Pink Ink® Rose of Sharon Care
Relax and celebrate Summer. This is one of those hard-working shrubs that thrive on neglect. Full sun will maximize blooms, but be sure that it is receiving at least 6 hours of sunlight daily. This plant thrives in moist, well-draining average soil, so avoid areas that tend to exhibit extremes of drought or wetness. An annual top dressing of compost or mulch is all the fertilizing that is needed.
Rose of Sharon can be trimmed into a more formal or informal shape. Technically little or no trimming is needed, but it is important to note that blooms are formed on the new year’s growth. If you do decide to trim, just make sure to prune in early spring (before growth begins) and only cut back 2 to 3 buds to ensure that this year’s blooms are not affected. Heavy pruning is not recommended.
Paraplu Pink Ink® Rose of Sharon Spacing
Give plants room to grow and allow 4 to 5 feet apart when spacing these plants in the landscape. To create an informal hedge, plant shrubs in wavy lines, or for a more formal hedge, plant shrubs in straight lines. Hedges or screenings can be a monoculture, but diversifying a hedge with 3 to 4 different varieties will make for the best success.
