The Party Balloon Allium is sure to add a touch of fun wherever you choose to grow it. A colorful perennial, Party Balloon Allium produces large purple globes up to 8 inches across on top of strong and sturdy green stems and foliage. It blooms from late spring to early summer and is wonderfully low maintenance.
The ornate flowers of the Party Balloon Allium are adored by a variety of pollinators. However, it is thankfully left alone by Bambi and his friends. This perennial is considered hardy in zones 4 to 9. Plant en masse or dot around a border; you can also grow this allium in a container. Party Balloon is ideal for adding height and structure.
Party Balloon Allium Care
The Party Balloon Allium needs full sun to thrive, but will also tolerate partial shade. It prefers fertile and free-draining soil, but can adapt to most garden soils. Drought tolerant, Party Balloon only requires watering for the first year and during hot and dry spells. Fertilizing is not generally needed in average garden soil. For poor soil, apply a slow-release balanced feed in the spring.
You can either deadhead the flowers after they bloom or leave them to develop seed heads and stand over winter. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after blooming.
Party Balloon Allium Spacing
In the right conditions, the Party Balloon Allium can reach 18 to 24 inches tall and wide. Space each plant 16 to 20 inches apart to create a solid groundcover effect.
