This Patio Pals collection comes with a spectacular selection of coral bells in warm tones: Black Sea, Caramel, and Magma. Flower stalks arise in summer, lined with bell-shaped flowers in hues of pink and ivory. These dainty flowers are magnets for hummingbirds and butterflies. The main feature of these plants is their foliage, ranging from amber, deep burgundy, and bright pink-red. Each leaf has prominent lobed margins and venation. They are sure to stand out in any shady garden!
These three popular cultivars form a low-growing mound with a tidy, rounded shape. Growing 10-18 inches tall, coral bells are both deer and rabbit resistant. These low-maintenance perennials will be the stars of your rock and woodland gardens, and will also grab attention in mass plantings, borders, and containers.
Patio Pals Cara Red Coral Bells Care
This North American native grows well with little maintenance. Plant Coral Bells in partial to full shade – too much sun may result in dry, sun-burnt leaves. Coral bells are tolerant of many soil conditions, including salty and rocky soils. They perform best in moist, well-drained soil and only need one application of slow-release fertilizer or compost in spring.
New growth is concentrated in the center of this plant. Prune out dead, browned leaves and spent flowers. Do not cut back this perennial for winter. Its shallow root system is at risk of heaving with fluctuating winter temperatures, so retaining its evergreen foliage aids in winter survival.
Patio Pals Cara Red Coral Bells Spacing
Coral bells can be planted 10-18 inches apart. They are well suited for small spaces, and can be planted with other compact perennials and annuals in containers for stunning arrangements.
