Paul Thirion Lilac grows to a height of 12 feet, with an upright, multi-stemmed form. This low-maintenance and deer-resistant shrub is perfect for borders and looks marvelous in mass plantings. Its erect, spreading habit with dense leaves makes it a great plant for privacy screening. Paul Thirion Lilac Care
Full to partial sun is needed to grow this captivating lilac. Full sun will result in more blooms. Paul Thirion Lilac performs best in average, well-drained soil with a pH of 6 to 7.5. Water regularly during the summer months, being careful not to overwater. Paul Thirion Lilac can benefit from fertilization in the spring to encourage multitudes of luscious leaves and flowers, and will grow well with little maintenance.
Deadhead regularly to upkeep the appearance of this shrub. Buds for next year’s season are produced in the middle of summer, so prune immediately after flowering is finished in spring. Take special care not to remove next season’s buds. As lilacs age, flowering typically diminishes and is confined to the top of the plant. Older and lower stems should be regularly removed to encourage an even distribution of flowers. This shrub may also produce suckers at its base that can be removed as they appear.
Paul Thirion Lilac Spacing
Paul Thirion Lilac has a spread of 8 feet and requires ample spacing for air circulation and light. It should be planted in the back of a border, and is fine for planting under power lines.
