Many Gardeners are intimidated by Roses. They have reputations for being difficult divas that will sulk and become susceptible to pests and disease if not babied through the summer. Peach Lemonade® Rose proves that Roses can be low maintenance and trouble free. This rose is a that is more closely related to Native Rosa rugosa than Hybrid Tea types. Peach Lemonade® will tolerate poor soil, part shade and temporary drought conditions, all while producing masses of blooms that change colors from pale yellow to deep pink as the flower ages.
The low maintenance aspect of this Rose makes it a great addition to both the cottage garden and urban garden. Peach Lemonade® is a tough shrub that performs well in the cold winter temperatures of the lower hardiness zones. The blooms are self-cleaning which means far less time during the summer needs to be spent deadheading Peach Lemonade® to keep it blooming. The semdouble blooms attract a wide range of native pollinators and will form rose hips that add interest to the winter garden.
Peach Lemonade® Rose Care
Roses prefer a soil that is neutral to slightly alkaline. Peach Lemonade® will bloom best in a full sun position, but does equally well in a partly shaded spot. Soil needs to have good drainage year round and average texture.
Pruning and fertilizing of Peach Lemonade® Rose is best done early in the spring as the new growth appears. Pruned out any dead, dying, diseased or diagonal branches to help the shrub keep an open shape. Feeding with a well balanced, slow release food formulated for Roses will support vigorous growth and blooming all season long. Mulching in the fall with leaves or organic compost will help to insulate the dormant crowns and enrich the soil over time.
Peach Lemonade® Rose Spacing
Peach Lemonade® Rose is much more disease and pest resistant than other varieties. The natural growth habit is mounding and does not need supplemental staking or pruning to keep its shape. The mature height and width is 3-4 feet. Spacing of plants at 3 feet on center is recommended. GRowing in containers can be successful and great in a smaller garden, patio or deck. Plant in a pot that has at least a 16 inch diameter and fertilize with a weak liquid feed each month during the summer.
