For a low-maintenance shrub with stunning foliage, check out this stunning Peach Perfection® Abelia. Botanically called Abelia hybrid 'SRPabeper', the foliage of Peach Perfection® changes from orange to yellow and then green as the season progresses. Red stems and pink-white flowers add even more interest to the mix. Keeping to less than 4 feet high makes this shrub ideal for a variety of situations.
High resistance to rabbit and deer browsing make this shrub perfect for rural landscapes. Furthermore, it can tolerate the heat and does not put out excessive leggy growth. Peach Perfection® is considered winter hardy down to zone 6, but it may lose its foliage over winter in zone 8 and below. This shrub is excellent whether grown on its own or as a group. It is also suitable for forming a low and informal hedge.
Peach Perfection® Abelia Care
The Peach Perfection® Abelia grows best in full sun and in an acidic, fertile and well-drained soil that is moist. Frequent watering is essential until established, after which it can handle dry spells. As a light feeder, fertilization is not strictly required, but you can apply a slow-release balanced feed in spring if desired.
Minimal pruning is needed; simply trim to shape in late winter or early spring. If grown in a container, regular irrigation will be required to prevent the soil from drying out over the summer months.
Peach Perfection® Abelia Spacing
The Peach Perfection® Abelia can reach 3 to 4 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide when fully grown. Space each shrub around 3 feet apart for a solid appearance or wider for a more defined form.
