Growing Zones
Ideally suited to borders or a large container, the Perfectly Picasso Spike Speedwell will attract interest and pollinators in equal measure. Upon green mounds of lance-shaped leaves, it develops long spikes of white flower buds in mid-summer that turn a vibrant pink as they open. Upright and clump forming, this perennial tends to grow to around two feet high and flowers for weeks on end.
Being wonderfully low-maintenance, the Perfectly Picasso Spike Speedwell is easy to grow and needs little ongoing care. As a deer-resistant perennial, this plant is perfect for exposed or rural locations and will attract bees and hummingbirds. This speedwell is also tolerant of salt, which makes it ideal for any coastal site as well. Perfectly Picasso is suitable for growing in USDA zones 4 to 8.
Perfectly Picasso Spike Speedwell Care
The Perfectly Picasso Spike Speedwell produces the best blooms when grown in a spot where it will receive full sun. However, it can tolerate some shade, but at the expense of some of its flower spikes. It prefers free-draining soil that is kept evenly moist. As a light feeder, speedwell tends not to need any supplementary fertilization and can happily go without, unless grown on very poor soil.
As the flowers begin to fade, they can be deadheaded to encourage new blooms to appear. After the first frost of winter, the stems can be cut back to just above soil level. Containers can be moved under cover to provide some protection from winter storms.
Perfectly Picasso Spike Speedwell Spacing
The Perfectly Picasso Spike Speedwell grows into bushy erect clumps up to 22-26 inches high and 22-24 inches wide. When planting more than one of these lovely veronicas, they can be spaced around 20 to 24 inches apart.
