Bell-shaped flowers in a lovely shade of pink bloom during the spring and make the Pink Charm Mountain Laurel an eye-catching plant. The Kalmia lat. 'Pink Charm' is a prolific bloomer; this shrub will be covered with flowers by late spring. This plant is a broadleaf evergreen, so the dark green, elliptical-shaped foliage stays in place during the winter for year-round color and interest.
Mountain Laurel is native to North America, and this plant will thrive once acclimated. The multi-branched growth habit creates a dense rounded form. Mountain Laurel prefers shady conditions and is a great shrub to feature in beds, borders, and mass plantings. Pollinators including bees frequent the flowers. The Pink Charm Mountain Laurel grows as a perennial in zones 4 through 8.
Pink Charm Mountain Laurel Care
This plant is somewhat particular about the space it calls home and will thrive with proper care. Plant it in partial to full shade for best results. This shrub blooms best with 4 hours of sunlight. Plant it in acidic soil that is well drained. This plant has a shallow root system, and the crown should be kept even with the ground level. Water weekly for the first growing season. Established plants only need water during a dry period.
Remove the flower clusters when the blooms fade to encourage more growth and keep the plant looking bushy. Feed Mountain Laurel with an acidic fertilizer in the early spring before growth appears.
Pink Charm Mountain Laurel Spacing
Pink Charm Mountain Laurel has a well-branched, rounded growth habit that will stand 8 to 10 feet tall and wide. Space shrubs 6 feet apart when creating a hedge or farther apart for a natural mass planting.
