Enjoy the stunning good looks of an Azalea beyond spring with the Pink Macrantha Azalea. Also known as Rhododendron 'Pink Macrantha’, this evergreen shrub boasts bright, bubblegum pink, double flowers. Trumpet-shaped flowers bloom in clusters and make a big impact in full bloom. The flowers bloom in mid-spring and continue to re-bloom through early fall.
This flowering shrub is an excellent size for a foundation planting or a low hedge to define an area without obscuring sightlines. As a broadleaf evergreen, the foliage remains in place all year for consistent color.
Pink Macrantha Azalea Care
Plant in full sun to partial shade. A planting site with morning sun and afternoon shade is often a good choice for this Azalea. This shrub prefers moist, well-drained soil with high organic content and an acidic pH. Keep the soil moist but never soggy. A layer of organic mulch will retain moisture and cut down on weeds. Apply a balanced plant food or a product intended for Rhododendrons in the spring.
Prune to shape after flowering is complete. This shrub sets flower buds a year in advance, so be careful not to remove buds when pruning.
Pink Macrantha Azalea Spacing
Pink Macrantha Azalea generally stands 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Space shrubs 4 feet apart, center on center, to create a continuous hedge.
