A flowering ground cover is always nice to add to the shady garden. Spotted Dead Nettle has both blooms that go for the whole summer and bright foliage that is a great contrast to other colors of green in a woodland garden. Pink Pewter Spotted Dead Nettle can also be used in containers or hanging baskets as the spiller element. It has a sturdy stem that can put up with a little foot traffic. The green edged silver foliage will light up any area and play off of plants such as Heuchera, Petunias and Impatiens.
Pink Pewter Spotted Dead Nettle is a dense spreader that will fill in an area quickly, but is also easy to control. The new foliage begins to show very early in the spring and goes all of the way to the first hard frost.
Pink Pewter Spotted Dead Nettle Care
Deadnettle will tolerate a wide range of everything. Hardiness zones are from 2-8, pH can be acid to alkaline and soil texture can be clay to chalky. A moist, well drained soil is a must. Soil that does not have enough drainage through the winter will cause Deadnettle to develop root rot and die.
Fertilizing is not often needed. A well balanced, slow release feed can be applied early in the spring when new growth appears. Dividing is only necessary if vigorous growth declines. Lamium that is planted as a container plant will benefit from a monthly diluted liquid feed.
Pink Pewter Spotted Dead Nettle Spacing
This low growing groundcover has a wide reach. Height of 6-12 inches and a width of 12-24 inches. Spacing for planting together as a ground cover is recommended at 20 inches on center.
