The dazzling display of pink flowers in April makes the Pink Spring Heather a joy to behold in spring. With a mature height of around 2 feet and its needle-like green foliage, this Erica carnea Pink has a myriad of uses around the garden. Loved by early pollinators, this pink heather is perfect for using as an attractive groundcover or for encouraging more wildlife into the garden.

When given the right conditions, this Pink Spring Heather is easy to grow and care for. It is drought tolerant and tends to be ignored by deer. This heather is cold hardy and suitable for growing in USDA zones 5 to 8. Use it in sunny beds and borders for some early color or for foundation planting.

Pink Spring Heather Care

As with most heathers, Pink Spring Heather requires full sun to avoid it sulking and giving up. It grows best when planted in free-draining, acidic soil and sheltered from the worst of the cold winds of winter. Frequent watering is needed on planting and until a good root system has developed. Once established, it can handle periods of drought. An annual application of an ericaceous fertilizer in spring will encourage blooming and help keep it healthy.

After the flowers fade, lightly trim the blooms away, which will help keep the growth compact and full. Avoid cutting back into old growth. Mulching will help insulate the roots from the winter cold.

Pink Spring Heather Spacing

The Pink Spring Heather will reach a mature height and spread of around 18 to 24 inches by 24 to 36 inches. A plant spacing of 36 inches will help promote good air circulation.
