The upright narrow habit of Pinpoint Blue false cypress inspires many uses in the landscape. Pinpoint Blue false cypress makes a stunning statement as a specimen in the landscape, as a clustered planting, as a hedge or when standing as sentries on each side of the front door. This evergreen could also be used as a thriller in a garden planter. The color works well with the sometimes hard to compliment red or orange brick. An added bonus – it’s deer resistant.
The evergreen foliage of Pinpoint Blue false cypress (Chamaecyparis lawsoniana) is soft and feathery. Native in Oregon and California, a common name for this species is Port Orford cedar, a greenery frequently used in winter arrangements all over the country. Pinpoint Blue false cypress gets 15 to 20 feet tall with a 5 to 6 foot spread at the base at maturity. The Pinpoint series of false cypress comes in three other colors, too.
Pinpoint® Blue False Cypress Care
This plant requires excellent drainage. Do no plant in low-lying areas or where water sits for even just a short while. To help with drainage, consider planting in a raised mound.
Make sure this and all evergreens are well watered going into winter. Pruning and fertilizer is not usually necessary.
Pinpoint® Blue False Cypress Spacing
Space Pinpoint Blue False Cypress 5 to 6 feet on center. The center of one plant should be 5 or 6 feet away from the center of the next Pinpoint Blue False Cypress.
