Often overlooked, the Plump & Plentiful™ Snow Star Beautyberry is a great shrub for adding long-season interest to the garden. In late summer, clusters of pearl-like white berries form along its branches, lighting up wherever it is grown. The Plump & Plentiful™ Snow Star Beautyberry is a manageable shrub that has an eventual height of 5-6 feet and large green leaves that drop as the temperatures fall.
This Callicarpa is known for attracting songbirds, but is thankfully resistant to deer. Whether its beautiful berries are left on the branch or cut to use in flower arrangements, they will surely draw interest. Originally from China, this beautyberry is well suited to growing at the back of a border or as part of a mixed hedge. It is hardy in zones 5 to 9.
Plump & Plentiful™ Snow Star Beautyberry Care
The Plump & Plentiful™ Snow Star Beautyberry grows well in either full sun or partial shade and prefers moist, but well-drained soil. Any extra nutrients are rarely required; however, a slow-release, general fertilizer can be applied in early spring to give it a boost. Extra irrigation is necessary to help this shrub develop a decent root system and withstand hot and dry weather.
Pruning is generally not needed, although up to one-third of the oldest stems can be removed at the base in late winter to encourage new growth.
Plump & Plentiful™ Snow Star Beautyberry Spacing
Over time, the Plump & Plentiful™ Snow Star Beautyberry can reach a height of 5-6 feet and spread of 4-5 feet. If planting this shrub amongst others, a spacing of 5 feet is recommended.
