The darling, showy flowers of the Pretty Poppers® Appleblossom Burst Pinks Dianthus will turn heads. Double, ruffled flowers have light pink near the edges and gradually fade to white close to the base, while bold accents of deep red stand out near the center. This prolific bloomer puts on a show mid-spring through early summer. While the flowers are the showstopper, this perennial also features striking narrow, greenish-blue foliage.
This mounded plant creates a full, rounded look and adds color and texture to a bed or border. The stems naturally spread out, so this plant can quickly overtake a space with the flowers gently overflowing from the edge of a bed or container. Feature several of these plants together for a lovely and colorful look. Pollinators are also drawn to the showy blooms of this hardy plant that thrives in USDA zones 4 through 9.
Pretty Poppers® Appleblossom Burst Pinks Dianthus Care
Dianthus needs full to partial sun and ideally will receive 4 to 6 hours of light. Plant in rich, moist but well-drained soil and water weekly or when the soil starts to dry out. Each spring, apply a balanced, organic fertilizer to replenish the nutrients and encourage new growth.
Deadhead the plant throughout the bloom cycle to help the perennial redirect energy into new flowers and growth. Prune all the growth back to a few inches in the fall after the flowers fade.
Pretty Poppers® Appleblossom Burst Pinks Dianthus Spacing
This upright mounded perennial will grow 8 to 10 inches tall and cover an area of about 16 to 20 inches. Plant Dianthus 14 to 18 inches apart, and as the plants fill in, they will cover an area with a carpet of greenery and blooms. Two plants can be grown in a 12-inch container.
