These magenta pink Dianthus live up to their name. Pretty Poppers® Double Bubble have fully double blooms that look like bubbles attached to its grassy green stems. The show keeps going from late spring through to mid summer. Dianthus makes a great addition as an edging plant for the garden border or in mixed seasonal containers alongside late spring bulbs and annuals.
Pretty Popper® Double Bubble Pinks have a compact mounded shape that blends in with other perennials easily. The grass-like foliage is semi-evergreen and lasts year round in the higher hardiness zones. The amazing scent of Dianthus will remind you that the longer days of summer are on their way. Deer resistance as well as disease resistant, Pinks are one of the lowest maintenance of perennials.
Pretty Poppers® Double Bubble Pinks Care
Double Bubble Pinks like a sunny location to keep it blooming for a long time. Average soil texture and pH are fine. Dianthus are drought tolerant once established, although extra irrigation may be needed the first 2 years during hot and dry spells. Mulching with an organic compost or fine arborist chips helps the soil bulk up and eventually become more moisture retentive.
A program of fertilizing and maintenance early in the spring will help Pretty Poppers® to remain vigorous bloomers. A well balanced, slow release fertilizer is recommended. Pinks planted in containers should be fed monthly with a weak water soluble fertilizer. Cutting back any dead foliage will tidy the plant up for an explosion of new growth in late spring. Dianthus do well with dividing every 3-4 years. The plants begin to die off in the middle over time. Dividing the clumps will really reinvigorate the roots into more growth.
Pretty Poppers® Double Bubble Pinks Spacing
Pretty Poppers® has a small and compact size, with a height of 6-8 inches and width of 6-8 inches. Spacing in the garden is recommended at 6 inches on center. When planting in a mixed perennial or annual container, spacing can be as close as needed to make the display pop. Pretty Poppers® make a great filler element.
