Growing Zones
The golden-yellow, needle-like foliage of the Prima Angelina Stonecrop Sedum is bound to brighten up any landscape. If that wasn’t enough, it also produces a mass of tiny yellow flowers in summer. This low and spreading sedum develops tight mounds and is wonderfully low maintenance. Botanically known as the Sedum rupestre Prima Angelina, this stonecrop is ideal for any sunny situation.
As with other sedums, the Prima Angelina Stonecrop is considered drought tolerant once it has become established. Due to its compact but spreading habit, it is perfectly suited for growing as ground cover, in rock gardens or in a container. Often pest- and disease-free, this sedum requires little attention and can be left to grow and get on with life.
Prima Angelina Stonecrop Sedum Care
For the best color and densest habit, the Prima Angelina Stonecrop Sedum should be grown in full sun. It will tolerate most soil types as long as they are not too rich and are free draining. Water upon planting and for the first growing season to help this plant get its roots down. However, once established, an occasional watering will usually suffice during. As sedums usually prefer poor-to-average soil, extra fertilization is not normally necessary.
Once faded, the spent flowers can be left to overwinter or deadheaded as desired. In spring, a light prune can help encourage dense growth. In winter, it can be wise to move container-grown plants under cover to prevent the soil from becoming saturated.
Prima Angelina Stonecrop Sedum Spacing
The Prima Angelina Stonecrop Sedum remains compact with a final size of 3-6 inches high and 6-8 inches wide. If growing this sedum to form a mat of undulating yellow foliage, it can be planted at a spacing of around 6-8 inches apart.
