  • There are few truly black-colored plants, but Primo Black Pearl Coral Bells (Heuchera 'Black Pearl') fits the bill. Shiny, jet black leaves fill the short coral bells and tiny white flowers rise on pink stems in summer. That's plenty of dramatic contrast built into one plant. Imagine the ruffled black leaves bordering a garden bed with a backdrop of white or yellow flowers. This little stunner will accent nearly any bed or container with its deep black foliage that lasts through fall and winter.

Primo Black Pearl Coral Bells works well to edge a garden bed or fill a container partly because of its unique color. Its short height also helps. The heuchera grows to only about 10 inches high and 18 inches around, leaving an unobstructed view of the green foliage and colorful flowers behind it. Bees, butterflies and hummingbirds are drawn to Pearl Coral Bells and deer avoid it. Heuchera plants are native to North America, so this is an easy-care perennial that packs a dramatic effect in zones 4 through 9.

Primo Black Pearl Coral Bells Care

Plant Primo Black Pearl Coral Bells in sun or part shade; it will perform in either setting. Place it in nearly any soil type, so long as the soil drains well. The plant loves soil rich in humus, so adding some organic compost around its base at planting and every so often throughout the year can help it stay healthy. Give it regular, average water, trim back flower stems when desired, and remove damaged foliage in early spring.

Primo Black Pearl Coral Bells Spacing

For a jet black edging or mass planting, place your Primo Black Pearl Coral Bells about 20 inches apart from each plant's center.

I ordered 1 Primo® Black Pearl Coral Bells with some other perennials and loved it so much I ordered 2 more. All the plants I’ve ordered have arrived in prime condition and the latest Huecherra had buds - ready to bloom in a few days! I’m curious to see how this plant does in Rio Grande Valley heat and humidity

    heart black plants

It is very difficult to find plants that are black, and even harder to find one that is easy to grow and does well in the shade. This plant just fits perfectly in my garden.
