The two-toned flowers of the Princess Kate Clematis or Clematis uvaria 'Princess Kate' will turn heads. Bell-shaped flowers measure 2-3 inches across and feature dark plum outer petals surrounding white inner petals. The long white petals gently curve from the center, giving the blooms a sense of drama and contrast. The Princess Kate Clematis blooms from summer into fall. The green oval-shaped foliage narrows to a gentle point, creating a subtle backdrop for the red-hued stems and showy flowers.

The Princess Kate Clematis is a vining plant that needs a trellis or arbor for support. Plant this Clematis along a fence and watch the reaching vines engulf the structure. Getting this plant off the ground helps it thrive and makes a visually stunning impact. Hummingbirds favor the pretty flowers, but deer and rabbits tend to leave the plant alone. Grow the Princess Kate Clematis in zones 5 through 9.

Princess Kate Clematis Care

This Clematis needs full to partial sun. Ideally, the roots will be shaded, and the rest of the plant will be in the sun. Water deeply and often, but avoid soggy conditions. Plant this Clematis in rich, well-drained soil. Clematis is a heavy feeder, so give it a low-nitrogen plant food every four weeks during the growing season.

The Princess Kate Clematis blooms on new growth, so prune in late winter or early spring. Remove damaged, old, or weak growth, and prune all stems to about 3 feet long.

Princess Kate Clematis Spacing

The vining Princess Kate Clematis grows 8 to 13 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. Space plants 3 feet apart so the vines have room to grow, while creating a continuous and dense look.
